The local bus which stops both sides of the main road is a must to get to places to visit. One way takes you to Hersonissos then to the capital Heraklion which is a beautiful place to visit for the castle and the harbour area and not forgetting the market. The other side of the road the bus goes to Malia then goes onto Agias Nikolaos which is also a lovely place and it has a market , you can also get a bus from here to Elounda where boat trips go to Spinalonga the Lepers Island. The buses are very comfortable with air- condition, are regular and best of all are cheap.
