Eating out in Stalis…
Stalis is the ideal location to kick back, unwind and escape from it all, it is especially well suited to those of us who like to explore the world with our taste buds, as much as our feet. Throughout the resort, you will find a bewildering array of beautiful looking restaurants, bars and tavernas each more tempting than the last. When you’re presented with so much choice, it can be difficult to know where the best places are to go and nobody likes a disappointing meal, so we’ve compiled a list of our favourites, to help you prepare for the most delicious summer ever.
Beachcomber Bar and Restaurant
In terms of appearance alone, Beachcomber’s recent refurbishment has really raised the bar for other restaurants in Stalis, a lot of money has been spent transforming this sea-front restaurant into the stunning, stylish and thoroughly modern building that stands there today. Thankfully they haven’t messed with the winning formula that has had people flocking here for many years. The food is still absolutely spot on, with the menu consisting of a well thought out blend of freshly grilled and locally sourced seafood alongside lovingly prepared traditional Cretan cuisine and a selection of international dishes. Beachcomber really is the ideal location for a romantic evening out – the beautiful sea views, combined with the sublime food and live music will really turn the overall experience into something quite magical.
Camelot really attempts to cater for everybody, offering as it does an ambitiously wide array of menu items and impressively it somehow manages to pull them all off flawlessly, from their giant all-day breakfast, through to their succulent selection of steaks and fresh fish – the quality of the food here is what really sets them apart from the rest and always receives rave reviews. The ambience in Camelot is rather unique, it may well be named after a Medieval English castle, but the atmosphere in the restaurant itself fizzes with friendly Greek culture, expect traditional Cretan dancers, smashed plates, full bellies and huge smiles.
Kaliana Mare Restaurant
Located at the very edge of the crystal blue waters of the Mediterranean, Kaliana Mare is renowned for the breath-taking views this special location affords its customers. When you couple the astonishing scenery with the gorgeous array of authentic national dishes on the menu, you know you’re in for something pretty special. The wine list at Kaliana Mare is incredibly extensive and the friendly, knowledgeable staff are always happy to help you advise you of the perfect tipple to accompany your meal. Occasionally Kaliana hosts special event nights, often featuring Greek music and dancing, which are brilliant fun and well worth attending, if you’re looking to really breathe in the culture of your surroundings.
Akti Beach Bar and Restaurant
If you are travelling on a shoe string, or just looking for something quick, stress free and cheap to eat whilst you unwind and recharge in the sunshine, Akti is definitely the place for you. Offering a wide selection of delicious, simple food at very reasonable prices, the menu ranges from pizzas and burgers to the fresh seafood that Crete is famous for. Alongside the brilliant food, Akti also offers an extensive wine and cocktail list. Sun, sea and snacks, what more could you ask for?
Many people have tried to transport the true experience of a proper English pub, to distant shores and seldom few have ever really get close to achieving it. The Red Lion does just about everything perfectly though, from their belly-busting full English breakfast, to the mouth-watering “just like my mum makes” Sunday Roast. They also offer a selection of tasty local meals, bar snacks and appetisers. Whilst The Red Lion is known for it’s quality food, they are more famous for their hospitality and sense of fun. Every night Tony and Shirley keep their guests happy and entertained with a number of events, pub quizzes, bingo and karaoke being the favourites. There is always something going on down the Red Lion. It really does feel like you are back down your local.
